Overview

Responsibilities
The Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) is seeking outstanding
candidates for a Control Engineer position supporting the Advanced
Sources and Detectors (ASD) Project as part of the Scorpius
Accelerator Group. ASD is responsible for developing the world's
newest and most advanced Linear Induction Accelerator (Scorpius).
Scorpius will be installed 963 feet underground at the NNSS where
it will generate high-current, relativistic electron beams that
will be converted into intense bremsstrahlung pulses used to probe
dynamic objects driven by high explosives.
In this role, you will be expected to apply a range of engineering
hardware and software command and control techniques to support,
maintain and upgrade the accelerator's control system.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with a team which includes scientists, engineers,
technicians, postdocs and students from the NNSS, Sandia National
Laboratory (SNL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
Provide software support on efforts including but not limited to
measurement automation, database development, web development,
hardware control and data acquisition while adhering to technical
standards and processes as applicable.
Work may include: Database development using MySQL or other
database environment; Web development as it relates to process
automation; LabView development for instrument control, data
collection, and data analysis.
Proficient with hardware systems operating at high data rates with
industrial style PLC controls.
Support the design, technical maturation activities and
commissioning activities of the Scorpius Accelerator.
Develop a working knowledge of control system codes and
standards.
Test that systems meet performance objectives in terms of function,
logic and communication with sub-systems and Global Controls.
Assist with data analysis and document results.
Follows established engineering and technical procedures and
instructions.
Contributes to designs, strategies, reports and technical
proposals.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the
Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required
for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees;
Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering;
Or Professional Engineer license.
Plus at least 2 years' relevant experience.Skill building
experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization
or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research
experience may be recognized.
Ability to interpret codes and standards within the discipline in
which they were hired.
M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or
similar field preferred.
Proficient experience with LabView. Certifications with LabView
desired.
Significant experience (not novice) with Experimental Physics and
Industrial Control Systems (EPICS).
Familiar with control system architectures, communication networks,
and protocols for OT/ICS/SCADA/DCS systems.
Database development experience desired.
Experience programming, configuring, commissioning, and testing
embedded-system control devices.
Testing and evaluating control system designs, solutions, cyber
mitigations.
Communication network and control system modeling.
Virtualization technologies and tools.
Experience adhering to software development processes and
configuration management.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills to
develop creative solutions to complex problems and time management,
organization, and planning skills with experience prioritizing
concurrent technical tasks.
Must be able to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate
compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and
procedures.
Proficient verbal and written communication and social skills
necessary to work effectively in a large technical team
environment.
Must be able to collaborate well in a multi-institutional
environment with all levels of staff and management.
The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in
North Las Vegas, Nevada. Work at the Nevada National Security Site
(located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada) may be required
in support of these functions.
Work schedule for this position will be 4/10's, Monday - Thursday
(subject to change). Travel, as needed, to support experiments,
workshops and other collaborative activities.
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen,
is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes
random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug
test and background review that includes checks of personal
references, credit, law enforcement records, and
employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment
with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to
meet the requirements for access to classified information or
matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security
clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of
information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other
indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied
or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the
duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In

Annual salary range for this position is $76,398.40 -
$114,608.00.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value,
the individual candidate education and experience and internal
