    Responsibilities
    MSTS is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the Fleet, Fuel and Equipment (FF&E) Department, within the Critical Site Infrastructure Division.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supporting and executing all FF&E Fleet and Equipment and assisting Facility Hoisting and Rigging Program activities at the NNSS and ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Department of Energy (DOE) H&R Standards, and Company documents.
    • Interacting frequently with all levels of Management throughout the site. Also interacting with SME counterparts throughout the complex to ensure the exchange of information with them.
    • Develop, and review critical lift plans throughout the site.
    • Devise solutions to highly complex technical problems of broad scope. Solutions may require resolving conflicting customer expectations and design requirements, utilizing unconventional technology and materials, and cross-disciplinary integration.
    • Coordinate complex projects including team members external to MSTS. Focuses on projects of substantial complexity and broad scope.
    • Interpret and adapt guidelines for specific cases. -
    • Evaluate processes, procedures, and work instructions to improve performance.
    • Prepare work statements for complex subcontracts and procurements, evaluates bids, and makes recommendations for awards.
    • Serve as a consultant to less experienced engineers, providing practical advice on the implementation of solutions for H&R operations and lift plan writing.
    • Research the industry for the latest practices and standards and incorporate them into MSTS documents.
    • Assist in reviewing Subcontractor H&R Programs against the requirements.
    • Ensure processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures. -
    • Assist with the training department to develop education or training in Fleet, Equipment, and H&R.
    • In addition to fulfilling basic ESH&Q obligations:

      • Must address all aspects of safety in the design and execution of work.
      • Work may affect public health and safety.
      • Likely to act as a safety team lead.
      • May help formulate ESH&Q protocols.


        Qualifications

        • Minimum Education and Experience:

          • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering andTechnology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees;
          • Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering;
          • Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board(NCARB)
          • Or Professional Engineer license

          • Plus at least 9 years' relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized.
          • Ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position.
          • Must exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, and the ability to maintain constructive working relationships at all levels.
          • Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to understand/explain technical concepts to non-technical personnel/customers/clients.
          • Proficient in Microsoft Programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
          • Proficient in CAD software.
          • The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada). Working in the forward areas of the NNSS to support these functions.
          • Work hours for this position are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday - Thursday (subject to change).
          • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
          • Must possess a valid driver's license.

            MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order -472.2, "Personnel Security". If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

            Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. -Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, "Counterintelligence Evaluation Program."

            Annual salary range for this position is $113,443.20 - $173,097.60.
