About this role: The Cardiothoracic Surgery APP provides advanced
clinical support to cardiothoracic surgeons in the preoperative,
intraoperative, and postoperative care of cardiac and thoracic
surgery patients. The APP works as a highly valued and integral
member of the surgical team, performing first assist duties,
managing perioperative care, and ensuring safe and effective
patient outcomes in both inpatient and outpatient settings. You
will be joining an established group with 4 CT surgeons and 3
experienced surgical APP’s at St. George Regional Hospital,
providing comprehensive cardiac and thoracic surgical care. Call
will be, on average, 1:4 nights and weekends. The practice, and the
Cardiovascular department, use a team-based approach to deliver
high-quality, nationally recognized care. You will work within the
operating room, clinic, and inpatient setting. Key
Responsibilities: - Perform endoscopic saphenous vein harvesting,
endoscopic radial artery harvesting, suturing, and wound
management. - First assist in cardiac surgical procedures (e.g.,
CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic surgery.) - First assist in
thoracic surgical procedures including thoracoscopic procedures and
bedside assist in robotic procedures (lung lobectomy, etc) -
Perform bedside and office-based procedures, such as thoracentesis
and chest tube placement. - Evaluate and care for patients in the
cardiothoracic surgery clinic - Provide postoperative wound checks,
medication management, and patient education. - Assist with pre-op
optimization and post-op follow-up planning. - Assist the team with
rounding on admitted patients as needed and writing progress notes,
orders, and care plans - Occasionally see inpatient consults for
the cardiothoracic surgery service - Discharge patients from the
hospital An ideal candidate will have the following skills and
competencies: - Two or more years of surgical experience preferred,
ideally in cardiothoracic surgery. - Proficiency in endoscopic vein
harvesting (EVH). - Strong procedural and surgical technical
skills. - Ability to interpret EKGs, imaging, and hemodynamic data.
- Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities. - Strong
critical thinking and independent decision-making within the scope
