Job Description Job Description Position Summary The School Nurse provides professional nursing care to students, staff, and school community members while promoting health, preventing disease, and supporting student learning. This role involves assessment, treatment, care coordination, health education, and collaboration with families and school personnel to address health barriers that may affect academic success. This position ensures compliance with Nevada state health requirements and supports the school’s commitment to student wellness and safety. Key Responsibilities Health Care & Management Perform health assessments, screenings (vision, hearing, growth/development), and referrals as needed. Provide first aid, manage acute illness or injury, and coordinate care following protocols. Develop and implement individualized health care plans for students with chronic or special health needs (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies). Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and district policy. Disease Prevention & Compliance Maintain student immunization records and ensure compliance with Nevada state law. Monitor communicable disease concerns and follow proper reporting and control procedures. Ensure the school meets all state health requirements and filings. Record Keeping & Communication Maintain confidential health records in accordance with FERPA and applicable state/federal guidelines. Communicate health concerns, care plans, and referrals to parents/guardians, staff, and external providers. Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and teachers to support student well-being. Health Promotion & Education Provide health education to students and staff on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, chronic disease management, and wellness. Advocate for student health needs and contribute to a positive and safe school environment. Emergency Preparedness Help develop and implement school health and safety policies including emergency response plans. Provide leadership and support during health-related emergencies or crises. Required Qualifications Education & Licensure Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the Nevada State Board of Nursing . School Nurse endorsement or eligibility through the Nevada Department of Education preferred or required based on district policy. Certification Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required. Additional certifications (e.g., first aid, emergency care) preferred. Experience Experience in pediatric, school, community, or public health nursing preferred. Experience interpreting health requirements and working with diverse youth populations is highly desirable.
