Learn more about this agency Responsibilities As Chief of Pain Medicine Service (PMS), the incumbent will lead the Service and is ultimately responsible for all aspects within PMS. This position works in collaboration with the chiefs of various services within the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS), Department of Defense, University of Nevada, Las Vegas and others as required providing a continuum of pain management services for the VASNHS. The incumbent reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS). The criteria for meeting the above expectations include: Leadership acumen sufficient to provide direction for single and complex programs in the delivery of services Management experience with strong administrative and interpersonal skills, including effectiveness in labor-management relations Demonstrated skills in providing clinical interface with academic affiliates and other key stakeholders Management experience regarding university generated education programs and specialty training programs Demonstrated commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery Documented ability to coordinate a broad continuum of programs Demonstrates abilities to work well within an executive team Ability to use data to develop and implement improvements in clinical care Have working knowledge of pain management to include acupuncture, chiropractic, osteopathic manipulative treatment, pain psychology, palliative care, and opioid safety. Leads, directs, plans, assists and collaborates to ensure that all PMS consults for services are performed in a timely manner. Leads, directs, plans, assists and collaborates to ensure that all examinations for PMS programs at the VASNHS are performed in an appropriate manner and completed in an appropriate time frame. Work Schedule: Full-Time; VASNHS is a 24/7 operation. The incumbent may be required to work days, nights, off-tour, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of our Veterans Travel Required 50% or less - You may be expected to travel for this position. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: The individual selected for this position will be a highly qualified board-certified or board-eligible physician. Given the complexity of such an undertaking, the individual selected will have a record of leadership achievement, initiative and supervisory success. It is expected that the physician who accepts this position will participate in patient care and teaching, thus qualifying for academic appointment. Direct patient care activity may account for as much as 50% of his/her time.
