Responsibilities

MSTS is seeking a Senior Technologist and Principal Technologist(Waste Specialist) to support theArea 5 Radioactive Waste Management Complex (RWMC). The Waste Specialist will report to the RWMC Low-Level Waste Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

Senior Technologist Level:

  • Primary responsibility will be the verification and receipt of Low-Level and Mixed Low-Level Waste shipments at the Area 5 RWMC.
  • As the responsible person in the field, facilitate the safe and compliant off-loading of waste shipments.
  • Process shipment paperwork, review of departmental procedures and quality control of shipment paperwork.
  • Perform surveillances and inspections.
  • Perform administrative functions related to support the Area 5 Document Safety Analysis including reading, training, exams, and implementation.
  • This position requires qualification to the Area 5 Low-Level Waste Specialist position and as a Real Time Radiography Operator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Perform macro-encapsulation of on-site generated waste as directed.
  • Attend and participate in routine meetings to include presentation of relatable safety topics.

Principal Technologist Level:

  • Primary responsibility will be the verification and receipt of Low-Level and Mixed Low-Level Waste shipments at the Area 5 RWMC.
  • Coordinate and complete critical support activities at the Radioactive Waste Management Complex (RWMC).
  • As the responsible field person, facilitate the safe and compliant off-loading of waste shipments.
  • Process shipment paperwork, review of departmental procedures and quality control of shipment paperwork.
  • Perform surveillances and inspections.
  • Perform administrative functions related to support the Area 5 Document Safety Analysis including reading, training, exams, and implementation.
  • This position requires qualification to the Area 5 Low-Level Waste Specialist position and as a Real Time Radiography Operator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Perform macro-encapsulation of on-site generated waste as directed.
  • Attend and participate in routine meetings to include presentation of relatable safety topics.
  • Conduct assessments; document results and develops reports.
  • Support Department of Energy (DOE)/NNSA reviews and assessments.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for Waste Profile reviews.
  • Maintain company processes/programs and implementing procedures.
  • Support Emergency Preparedness drills and exercises in a variety of project roles.

Qualifications

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

Senior Technologist Level:

  • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 8 years progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 10years progressive related experience
  • Experience in nuclear waste management programs and/or radioactive waste management preferred.
  • Experience in receipt of waste, receipt paperwork and processing waste transporter documents preferred.
  • Previous OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations training and Radiological Worker II training are desired.
  • Must have a basic understanding of both Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, as well as Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
  • Must be proficient with a computer and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work outside in cold temperatures during the winter and extreme heat in the summer.
  • Must have excellent communication, leadership, and problem solving skills to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience and understanding of Powered Industrial Truck (Fork Lift) and Hoisting and Rigging operations is preferred.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.

Principal Technologist Level:

  • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 13 years progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 15 years progressive relatedexperience.
  • Experience in nuclear waste management programs and/or radioactive waste management preferred.
  • Experience in receipt of waste, receipt paperwork and processing waste transporter documents preferred.
  • Previous OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations training and Radiological Worker II training are desired.
  • Experience with Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous waste shipments desired.
  • Experience with Conduct of Operations desired.
  • Must have a basic understanding of both DOT regulations, as well as Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
  • Must be proficient with a computer and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work outside in cold temperatures during the winter and extreme heat in the summer.
  • Must have excellent communication, leadership, and problem solving skills to work in a fast-paced environment.

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites, will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.

Eligibility Requirements To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order472.2, Personnel Security.
