Overview

Responsibilities
The Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene Department is
looking for a high performing individual with an attention to
detail to provide industrial hygiene support to environmental
restoration activities, underground support, and other fieldwork as
assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Scientist II
Responsible for providing industrial hygiene support within Mission
Support and Test Services, LLC MSTS) Occupational Safety &
Industrial Hygiene (OS&IH) Division.
Maintain, operate, and ensure calibration of a variety of sampling
and monitoring equipment. Verifies monitoring equipment is
functioning properly.
Participates in the training and qualification program for
equipment and routine activities.
Conduct personal/area air and gas sampling as required per project
(i.e., asbestos, beryllium, lead, noise) in accordance with an
approved sampling plan.
Conduct routine bulk sampling and swipe sampling as required per
project to characterize work/adjoining areas, and release items in
accordance with an approved sampling plan.
Manage, oversee, evaluate, or participate in various industrial
hygiene-related programs with support from the department.
Maintain the ability to work underground and/or on backshift or
swing shift hours for project support.
Attend pre-job briefings per project, focusing on industrial
hygiene issues.
During planning and developmental phase, evaluate proposed new work
processes or materials to ensure incorporation of adequate measures
for prevention of occupational disease hazards.
Participate in developing controls to minimize or eliminate actual
or potential health hazards.
Evaluate and interprets results regarding environmental, safety,
and health impacts. Reviews results with other scientists.
Work with staff and management to prepare technical reports and
recommendations on how to correct hazardous conditions to include
investigating health problems that arise among workers.
Develop or maintains a thorough working knowledge of safety and
health functions, corporate policies and procedures, and
governmental safety and health programs.
Consult with supervisors, manager, and departmental leads on safety
and health matters to ensure that work procedures follow MSTS and
governmental requirements.
Support and encourage participation in MSTS environment, safety,
and health initiatives.
Will stop work if occupational safety and/or industrial hygiene
requirements are compromised.
Senior Scientist
Responsible for providing industrial hygiene support within Mission
Support and Test Services, LLC MSTS) Occupational Safety &
Industrial Hygiene (OS&IH) Division.
Maintain, operate, and ensure calibration of a variety of sampling
and monitoring equipment. Verifies monitoring equipment is
functioning properly.
Participate in the training and qualification program for equipment
and routine activities.
Create and executes sampling plans for personal/area air and gas
sampling as required per project (i.e., asbestos, beryllium, lead,
noise).
Create and executes sampling plans for routine bulk sampling and
swipe sampling as required per project to characterize
work/adjoining areas, and release items.
Independently manage, oversee, evaluate, or participate in various
industrial hygiene-related programs.
Maintain the ability to work underground and/or on backshift or
swing shift hours for project support.
Attend pre-job briefings per project, focusing on industrial
hygiene issues.
During planning and developmental phase, evaluate proposed new work
processes or materials to ensure incorporation of adequate measures
for prevention of occupational disease hazards.
Document activity exposure assessments for activities that have the
potential to exceed 10 percent of the exposure limit.
Develop controls to minimize or eliminate actual or potential
health hazards.
Evaluates and interprets results regarding environmental, safety,
and health impacts.
Prepare technical reports and recommendations on how to correct
hazardous conditions to include investigating health problems that
arise among workers.
Develops or maintains a thorough working knowledge of safety and
health functions, corporate policies and procedures, and
governmental safety and health programs.
Has experience in the practical application of federal/state
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Experience
with Department of Energy procedures/regulations and standards is
preferred.
Ensure that work procedures follow MSTS and governmental
requirements.
Recommend actions related to non-compliance and follows through to
ensure corrective actions, as stipulated and approved by the
supervisor, manager, or departmental lead, are implemented.
Support and encourage participation in MSTS environment, safety,
and health initiatives.
Will stop work if occupational safety and/or industrial hygiene
requirements are compromised.
Qualifications
Scientist II
Bachelor's degree in a calculus-based (STEM) field, plus at least 2
years' relevant experience. Skill building experience must
demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional
cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be
recognized.
Has experience in the practical application of federal/state
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Experience
with Department of Energy procedures/regulations and standards is
preferred.
Must be able to work in an underground setting. Mine Safety and
Health Administration (MSHA) and mining experience preferred.
Must be able to wear respiratory protection and remained
qualified.
Able to utilize judgement and follow oral and written instructions
in completion of all duties.
Must be able to plan/organize work to ensure all assignments are
completed efficiently and within the required timeframe.
Skill to read and understand technical specifications, procedures,
and regulations.
Ability to record data accurately and complete logs, reports, and
other written information.
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to
communicate with all types of people in a tactful, professional,
and effective manner while screening and maintaining
confidentiality.
Able to remember extensive policies, procedures, terminology,
schedules, personnel, and other details.
Able to deal with pressure of deadlines, frequent interruptions,
multiple priorities, responding to emergencies/immediate requests,
and working around hazardous conditions.
The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security
Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
Work schedule for this position will be 4/10's, Monday - Thursday
(subject to change) with the potential for overtime, backshift, or
swing shift support hours.
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen,
is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes
random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Senior Scientist

Annual salary range for this position is: $77,376.00 - $141.835.20

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value,
